The Botanica rug collection is the first collaboration between GAN and Bodo Sperlein, with which the German designer based in London has managed to represent the beauty and complexity of the natural world through intricate details, soft curves, meticulous changes in shades, and stratified areas with different pile heights.
The high level of detail in the drawing's representation, and the pronounced three-dimensional effect of the Botanica collection rugs, are achieved through the mixture of two artisanal techniques: hand-tufted and carving. This combination allows for different heights and elevations to be executed in a single piece, imitating the undulations, organic contours, and dynamic appearance of the botanical universe.
By including subtle changes in shade, the Botanica collection rugs convey a powerful illusion of organicism, depth, and movement. With Botanica, Bodo Sperlein has succeeded in creating a rug collection with a strong biophilic character, establishing a direct connection between the spaces in which they are integrated and nature.
