Pierre Paulin Ribbon Chair
An icon of 20th century modern furniture design, the 'Ribbon' chair and ottoman with white lacquered base, was designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort circa 1966. The bold contoured form of Paulin's Ribbon allows the user to assume a variety of positions while retaining the necessary support. A professional, innovative vision inspired by the well-known ribbon form. A beautiful example of applied arts, the Ribbon by Artifort is one of the most beautiful chairs with its strikingly eloquent form.
Pierre Paulin Tongue Chair
Tongue: a beautiful free-flowing chaise by Pierre Paulin. This playful chair from French designer Pierre Paulin is part sculpture, part lounge chair. Available in a slew of bright colors, it will add just the right amount of curves to any decor.
French artist, turned furniture design, created numerous modern chairs for Artifort. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris.
Pierre Paulin Quote
"A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." - Pierre Paulin
