One of the most beloved decorative objects in the house of Charles and Ray Eames was a black, wooden bird known as Eames House Bird. The bird can be seen in many photos of the famous designer couple, and it even made its way to a commercial poster of Eames chairs. The original wooden bird was a piece of folk art from the Appalachian Mountains, which Charles and Ray Eames found on their journeys. Like the original model, Vitra’s Eames House Bird is made of painted alder with steel wire legs.

Eames Bird (Walnut): 1 piece. Construction material: wood (walnut) with metal feet in black. First created as a unique piece in 1949 - never went into production. Black edition introduced by Vitra in 2012. Now to be produced in a limited edition in walnut for the very first time. Dimensions: 10.75"L x 3.5"W x 11"H. Ships fully assembled. American architect & design team Charles/Ray Eames (est. 2000) most famous creation is the House Bird from the late 1940s. One prototype was shown at their own home in 1950 and still survives in the Eames family house. The designers demonstrated how good design can improve quality of life and human understanding and knowledge with iconic creations such as their Lounge & Ottoman, various chairs and objects. Practical, comfortable and Stylish, Eames® combined an extraordinarily high level of craftsmanship with elegant style. They are known for their coin phrase "Design is for living."
