Niko Kralj: Mosquito Molded Plywood Chair by Rex Kralj, Slovenia. Designed by the Slovenian Architect & Industrial Designer in 1953, the Fifties-era Mosquito Chair got its name from thin tapering legs and mosquito wings shaped seating surface. On top of its mid-century-inspired frame, the designer gave this stylish accent- or dining chair a comfortable oval back for a seat that's extra inviting. Five available colors compliment any space: white, black, oak (natural, bleached), walnut seat with beechwood legs, walnut seat with walnut legs. MOSQUITO is much more than a simple seat: it is a piece of mid-century furniture that made design history. Mosquito chair gives a light and elegant impression. Its unique construction of mounting the chair legs to the seat is patent protected. The seating surface is cut in the middle and obliquely raised outwards. Because of thin tapering chair legs and mosquito wings shaped sitting surface, it reminds us of a mosquito. And that is how it got its name.

Niko Kralj (1920-2013) was as central figure in 20th century Slovenian architecture and design. His role can be compared to Alvar Aalto in Finland or to Charles and Ray Eames in USA. n 1962 Niko Kralj received the highest Slovenian award for culture — the Preseren Award — for his achievements in the field of architecture and design.
