The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA®) established the world's first curatorial department devoted to architecture and design in 1932. New York City's MoMA® has played a leading role in the definition and dissemination of architecture and design. Many noteworthy objects of good design are part of the permanent design collection at the MoMA, also known as "The Collection". The objects presented in our list are part of the selections from MoMA's® design collection. Each object illuminates the primary values of good design as promoted (and disputed) by museums, design councils, historians and scholars. Iconic pieces by designers like Charles and Ray Eames and Hans Wegner are shown alongside more unexpected items, such as a an everyday functional object including the Boby portable storage system by Joe Colombo (1969). The MoMA® name and logo are registered marks owned by The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Stardust is not affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art. |
