Miniature scale model of Grete Jalk Laminated Chair. The Laminated Chair was designed by Danish designer Grete Jalk in 1963. This Vitra miniature chair ships in a small wooden Vitra box which is perfect for storage or display. This Vitra collectible miniature design chair is constructed to the exact specifications of the original but at a much smaller scale of 1:6. The construction, materials and colors correspond to the historical Vitra Design Museum collection original, right down to the last detail. Because each miniature modern chair is so true to the original, the miniature chair is not only a valuable collector’s item, but also an ideal illustrative material for universities, colleges of design and architects. The Vitra miniatures collection present the most important classics of modern furniture history in miniature scale. The miniature collection is unique worldwide.

Designed by Grete Jalk (1920-2006) in 1963, the Laminated Chair is regarded today as the Danish designer's best known work. The chair, for which Jalk also created a companion side table, was realized in collaboration with the cabinetmaker Poul Jeppensen. Although it won first prize in a competition organized by the British newspaper, Daily Mail during the year of inception, the chair never went into industrial production. Probably only a few pieces from the original series of approximately 300 still exist today. This explains the extremely high prices that have been paid for this model at international auctions in recent years. The expressive sculptural form of the chair, composed of two similarly shaped pieces molded plywood, marks a late highlight in the engagement of prominent designers with this material, which had commenced in the 1930s.

The Vitra Design Museum was founded in Weil am Rhein, Germany, in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum.
