The Ice chair, designed by Kasper Salto, marks a milestone in the history of Fritz Hansen: Ice is the first chair from the hand of Fritz Hansen that is equally suited for both indoor and outdoor use.
The chair with its rib-like back incorporates the virtues of classic chairs of the past while the choice of materials points to the future.
The base is natural anodized aluminum and the seat and backrest are made of ASA-plastic, a both sturdy and sustainable choice.
The result is a lightweight, highly comfortable and hardwearing chair.
Kasper Salto - the designer of the Ice Series, Little Friend and NAP - was trained as a cabinetmaker with Jorgen Wolff.
He graduated in 1994 as a designer from the Danish Design School.
During his studies Salto spent a term at the Art Center in Switzerland.
In Kasper Salto's work the Danish tradition of furniture design is continued in a well-balanced combination with international industrial design.
Salto's main source of inspiration is nature's superior way of designing and coloring.
In spite of his young age, Kasper Salto has already received several design awards for his works such as the Danish Knud V. Engelhardt's memorial award, The Danish Arts Foundation in the category of Crafts & Design & the Finn Juhl Prize.
